A good friend of mine recently spent a short time in Dubai and called it one of the most amazing places he had ever seen with its dazzling architecture and obscene display of kitsch. Dubai is a twenty-first century city with a universal cosmopolitan appeal where Middle Eastern riches, Asian finesse and Western pop culture intersect.
Dubai-based electro-pop outfit The Fine perfectly captures the city’s unique blend of cultures. The group is made up of Dubai born synth meister Dinesh and vocalist Clair who is originally from Ireland. The two met in Dubai and struck an immediate connection. Over the past few months, they have been recording music in Bombay, India with hotshot Bollywood producer Clinton Cerejo. More recently, they spent time in London to finalize mixing the songs. Their self-titled EP is now available for download in MP3 format on 7Digital.
“Hero” is the lead track taken from the EP. It is a beautifully orchestrated, mesmerizing tune that brings together an amalgam of influences, starting with the duo’s own unique ethnic perspectives. This is one of those soothing tracks that you play on a long-haul flight to drift away high in the sky.
The song is based on an idea that people across the globe can relate to. “‘Hero’ is inspired by a conversation I have had with myself a few times in my life,” Claire writes me. “When I felt everything was hopeless, that I was tamed, caged, locked and lost. You are the hero, only you can change the direction of your life and how you live it, don’t let the sea drown you.” (Many thanks to Dinesh for reaching out to Arjanwrites.com and allowing me to share his music.)
